Getting around the airport

MDW

Chicago Midway International Airport is on the southwest side of Chicago, 8 miles from the Loop, the city’s central business district. CDW has a Main Terminal that connects to Concourses A, B, and C.

  • The Midway Passenger Terminal has two levels: the Lower Level is the Arrivals level with baggage claim, ATMs, charging station, and ground transport. The Upper Level is the Check-in Level with ticketing counters, food court (airside), and information desk.
  • All concourses are airside so departing passengers can easily transfer between them. Concourse A serves Delta, Porter, Southwest and Volaris airlines; Concourse B services Southwest Airlines; Concourse C works with Branson Air Express and North Country Sky airlines.
  • Free Wi-Fi access for 30 minutes. Paid Wi-Fi connection is available in most public and secure areas. Rates are USD 6.94 for 24 hours.

Getting into Chicago

Many good options

Train

The Chicago Transit Authority Orange Line trains are the easiest and most affordable way to get between the airport and downtown Chicago. Normal travel time is 20-25 minutes. The N62 Archer bus offers service during the trains’ off-hours. A single fare is USD 2.25.

Taxi

Taxi stands are located curbside on the lower level of the Main Terminal. Fares are metered but an average fare from the airport to downtown Chicago is USD 28-30.

Bus

Buses are available through the CTA service (Routes 47, 54B, 55, 55A, 55N, 62N, 62H, 63, 63W) and PACE services (Route 379, 382, 383, 384, 385, 386, 390). CTA journeys cost USD 2.25 and PACE buses are USD 1.75. We recommend consulting the Regional Transportation Authority Trip Planner if you plan on using bus services.

Express Shuttle

The Go Airport Express offers door-to-door service to and from Midway and most city and suburban neighbourhoods. Departures are about every 15 minutes and fares are approximately USD 27. Call Go Airport Express directly for departure information: 773-247-1200 or 888-284-3826.

Battle of Midway Memorial Exhibit

Learn About US History in Concourse A

There is a small permament exhibit at concourse A of the Midway airport. Through several screens and memorial plaques as well as a full size world war 2 plane it tells the story of the battle of Midway. This historic battle between the US and Japan took place in 1942 in the are surrounding the Midway atoll in the north pacific ocean (midway between America and Asia – hence the name).

Throughout the airport

Seated workstations with counter space and AC outlets provide travellers with an area to recharge electronic devices free of charge. Each are equipped with four to eight seats and are located throughout the terminals. Each unit has a wheelchair accessible workstation.
All of the gate waiting areas offer seats equipped with power outlets in their gate waiting areas.
