At only 5km from Bologna, this airport is well placed for some sightseeing if you have a few hours between flights.
One of Italy’s most instantly likeable cities, Bologna's attractive redbrick medieval architecture contrasts to the youthful population, in part attracted by the historic university. Great for people watching, the Piazza Maggiore is at the heart of the city, just 15 minutes by shuttle from the airport.
Don’t leave without sampling authentic gelati at La Sorbetteria Castiglione, half an hour from the centre.
Location: Via Castiglione 44 d/e, 40124
Opening hours: Tue-Sat 08.30-24:00, Sun 09:00-23.30
There are several car hire agencies available in the main terminal's ground floor, provided by Avis, Europcar, Budget, Sixt, Hertz, Locauto and Maggiore.
You have a better selection of places to eat before going through to departures. Choose from selected local wines, salami and cheeses in the Bollicine Wine Bar - the standout option that is a combination of a wine bar and ice-cream parlour.
After Departures, choice is limited to the Autogrill cafe or the Segafredo Zanetti coffee bar.
There are no hotels within the airport.
The Sheraton Bologna Hotel & Conference Center (a Sheraton in name only – the hotel is no longer affiliated with the hotel group) is located just outside the airport grounds but a complimentary shuttle service runs between the airport and the hotel every 20 minutes during the day. It’s corporate in look and feel but offers doubles from €90.00 for two room only, a restaurant serving regional food and a gym and a late check out of 12pm. Meeting spaces are also available.
