Getting around the airport

HAN

Noi Bai International Airport serves the capital city of Hanoi and is located 30 kilometres from the city centre. The passenger terminal complex consists of two terminals: Domestic Terminal 1 and International Terminal 2.

  • The terminals are connected by a free shuttle bus which runs every 15 minutes from 06:00-midnight. The bus starts at Terminal 2, Level 1 (West Side) and stops at Terminal 1, Level 2, A Lobby and E Lobby; and Level 1 A Lobby.
  • Terminal 1 is shaped like a Y and has three levels. Level 1 is the Arrivals Lobby, Level 2 has departure gates and check-in areas, Level 3 has restaurants and bars.
  • Terminal 2 has four levels: Level 1 is Arrivals, Level 2 is for Transit and Arrivals Customs, Level 3 is Departures check-in and gates, while Level 4 houses the business and VIP lounges, as well as restaurants and shops. There is a main terminal with two concourses.
  • Luggage trolleys are free

Getting into Hanoi

Bus, taxi and Uber

Taxi

Taxis are well-regulated at the airport. Negotiate a rate from the airport to the city centre for around VND 345,000 (USD 15) and you can request a drop-off at your hotel. Taxis don’t pay the toll at the airport booths. The journey should take 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Taxi rates for other destinations are published on a board near arrivals. If you have a hotel booked, ask them to dispatch a driver.

Uber

Uber now operates in Hanoi. They will collect you at the domestic or international terminals from the car park. Uber Black drivers tend to speak English and cost approximately the same as an airport taxi; Uber X is half the price but generally do not speak English.

Bus

This is the cheapest option. Bus number 7 crosses the Thang Long Bridge to the Daewoo Hotel. Prices are VND 9000 (USD 0.40). Luggage is generally not permitted, but you can offer to pay for the baggage as well. Buses run every 30 minutes and the journey takes approximately 1.5 hours.

Faster Departure

No checked luggage line

If you’re departing from HAN airport with no checked luggage, walk to the last airline check-in counter. To the right of it, there is a sign for check-in counters for passengers without checked luggage. Using this counter is a great time saver if it applies to your travel.
