Getting into Baltimore

Public Bus

MTA Bus (Maryland Transportation Administration) number 17 runs between BWI, Parkway Center, Arundel Mills Mall, Airport 100 Park, and the Patapsco Light Rail stop. Bus number 99 runs to the Old Court Metro Subway Station.

Operating hours: 24 hours daily (#17) and 06:00-18:00 weekdays (#99).

Express Bus

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMTA) BWI Express/B30 runs to the Greenbelt Metro Station every hour during operating hours.

Light Rail

Light Rail service is available from BWI Marshall Rail Station. Trains go to downtown Baltimore as well as Penn Station (exit at Mt. Royal and take the Penn Station Light Rail). Shuttle stops to the BWI Marshall Rail station are available on the lower level terminal roadway between door numbers 1&2, 8&9, 14&15, and 17&18. They operate every 6 minutes from 05:00-20:00, every 8 minutes from 20:00-01:00, and every 25 minutes from 01:00-05:00.

Getting around the airport

1 Main Terminal, 5 Concourses

Baltimore-Washington International Airport is located 10 miles south of Baltimore. The airport has a two-level Main Terminal with Concourses A through E. The upper level of the Main Terminal is the Departures and Ticketing level. The lower level is Arrivals and Baggage Claim level, as well as Ground Transportation.

  • The landside Main Terminal is shaped like a horseshoe with each surrounding concourse designating the airside area. The concourses house security, concessions, shopping, and departure gates.
  • There is an airside connector between Concourses A, B, and C, and C, D, and E. Four Skywalks from Level 6 of from the Hourly Parking Garage take you to the Main Terminal near Concourses A, B, D, and E.
  •  International Arrivals go to Concourse E, unless you have gone through US Customs clearance in the originating airport.

Travelling between the Concourses

No shuttle services are needed between the Main Terminal and the Concourses. Unless you arrive on an international flight, you can proceed to your next Concourse and Gate.

Rent a Bicycle

Exercise on a long layover

Passengers on a long layover may rent a Zagster bicycle for up to 12 hours at the Light Rail Station outside the terminal by Concourse E. This will allow you to explore the 12.5 mile scenic outdoor trail that circles the airport grounds. The trail passes through observation areas and forests. The bike rental costs USD 5. The bikes can be reserved in advance on the Zagster website.

A charging station is available in the International Terminal’s seating lounge. These can charge up to 10 electronic devices simultaneously.

New charging stations can also be found in the A/B baggage claim areas for Southwest Airlines.

BWI Airport has a spacious rental car facility providing one-stop rental car shopping for passengers. The facility is located at Stoney Run Road and New Ridge Road. A free shuttle service carries customers to and from the airport approximately every 10 minutes. Passengers arriving on flights should take the free shuttle from the lower level terminal for a ten-minute ride to the new facility.
