Chicago Midway International Airport - MDW

Chicago Midway International Airport is on the southwest side of Chicago, eight miles from the Loop –the city’s central business district. MDW has a Main Terminal that connects to Concourses A, B, and C.

• The terminal: The Midway Passenger Terminal has two levels. The lower level is the Arrivals level with baggage claim, ATMs, charging station, and ground transport. The upper level is the check-in Level with ticketing counters, food court (after security), and an information desk.
• The concourses: All concourses are after security, and you can easily transfer between them. Concourse A serves Delta, Porter, Southwest and Volaris airlines; Concourse B services Southwest Airlines; Concourse C works with Branson Air Express and North Country Sky airlines.
• Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi access for 30 minutes. Paid Wi-Fi connection is available in most public and secure areas. Rates are USD 6.94 for 24 hours.

Chicago Midway airport lies 20km south-west of the city centre. The local Orange Line train is the easiest and most affordable way to travel into the city.

Train

The Orange Line trains are run by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Normal travel time to downtown Chicago is 20-25 minutes. When the train isn't running, take the N62 Archer bus.

Taxi

Taxi stands are located curbside on the lower level of the Main Terminal. Fares are metered.

Cost: USD 28-30 to downtown, plus tip

Bus

Buses are available through the CTA service (Routes 47, 54B, 55, 55A, 55N, 62N, 62H, 63, 63W) and PACE services (Route 379, 382, 383, 384, 385, 386, 390).

Express Shuttle

The Go Airport Express shuttle offers a door-to-door service to and from Midway and most city and suburban neighbourhoods. Departures are about every 15 minutes.

Cost: Around USD 27
Hours: 06:00-23:30 daily

There is a small permament exhibit at concourse A of the Midway airport. Through several screens and memorial plaques as well as a full size world war 2 plane it tells the story of the battle of Midway. This historic battle between the US and Japan took place in 1942 in the are surrounding the Midway atoll in the north pacific ocean (midway between America and Asia – hence the name).

MDW airport has added a yoga studio for people who would like to stretch or perform their daily yoga practice. The room is unstaffed but there are mats and mirrors available. Use is free.
