Thessaloniki Airport is situated 8 miles south of the centre of Thessaloniki. The airport has one terminal with three floors. The ground floor serves arrivals only and is divided into two sections: international/non-Schengen arrivals and domestic/Schengen arrivals. The first floor serves departures with check-in counters and a shopping area. The second floor has two restaurants and several bars with runway views.
You will find taxi stands outside of the passenger terminal, arrivals area. A one way trip to the city center takes around 30 minutes and costs EUR 20-25. If you need to go to the airport from the city during rush hour it would be better to book your taxi ride in advance.
Bus
Buses 78, 78A and 78N operate between Thessaloniki Airport and Intercity Bus Station, which is located in the western part of Thessaloniki. During the day you can get into the city by bus 78 several times per hour. In the late evening and during the night you can take bus 78N. Cost: EUR 2.
You will find the car hire companies in the arrivals area of the airport, provided by Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Avis. It is very comfortable to travel by car to Greece. You can travel around Kassandra and Sithonia or even visit Athens. However, if you go to the south of the country be aware that the route has tolls. You can book a car at the airport, or save money by booking online before you travel.
We recommend arriving at the airport earlier before you depart so you can go through security and find your boarding gate. It can be crowded especially on nice summer days.
