Getting into Kansas City

Shuttles, buses and taxis

There are several options to get from the airport into Kansas City, though all of them rely on cars.

Metro Bus

Metro Bus Route 129 leaves at terminal C and goes all the way to downtown Kansas City. The bus has an irregular schedule, though it leaves approximately once per hour. Fareboxes accept exact change only.

Location: Terminal C, before security, arrivals
Cost: USD 1.50

Taxi

Taxis are located in front of all terminals. It's a 25 to 40 minute cab ride to get to downtown Kansas City. The fare is between 50 and 80 USD.

Location: Outside the terminal building, before security, arrivals
Cost: USD 2.50 plus USD 2.10 per mile.

Shuttle/Limousine Services

There are many private shuttle bus companies who will take you anywhere and who'll likely charge you less than the taxi drivers. However, you might have to wait for other passengers. Limousine services offer more service and privacy than regular taxis.

Getting around the airport

Three terminals in a ring shape

The Kansas City International Airport lies 24km northwest of Kansas City, Missouri. The airport's largest carriers are Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines, both having many daily flights in Terminal B. It consists of three ring-shaped terminals. The special shape was part of a concept to reduce walking distances from arriving cars to the airplane. In the centre of each ring are parking lots.

  • Terminal A: Gates A1-A30 (not in use since 2014)
  • Terminal B: Gates B31-B60
  • Terminal C: Gates C61-C90 (undergoing renovations to handle international flights)

Travelling between terminals

There are shuttle bus connections running between the terminals. The RED BUS line travels between terminals and parking lots and leaves approximately every 15 minutes. Bus stops are located outside each terminal building and are marked with the sign "Red Inter-Terminal Connection".
