Getting around the airport

Two terminals with three concourses

Raleigh-Durham International Airport is located 4.5 miles northeast of the town of Morrisville in Wake County. It serves the “Research Triangle” Metropolitan region of North Carolina.

  • The airport has Terminals 1 (with Concourse A) and 2 (with Concourse C and D). 
  • The ground level of Terminal 1 is ticketing and baggage claim. The concourse level with A Gates has a security checkpoint, ATMs, cafés, and restaurants.
  • The baggage claim level of Terminal 2 has all modes of ground transportation and baggage carousels. The ticketing level has three sections divided by escalators. The security checkpoints leads to the concourse gates.
  • Seats in the terminals are equipped with power outlets.

Transferring between the terminals

Terminals 1 and 2 do not have an airside connection; passengers transferring between the terminals need to take the shuttle bus or the moving walkway through the covered parking decks between the terminals.

Ground transportation providers at Raleigh-Durham International Airport pick up passengers outside baggage claim at Terminal 1 and on the lower level of Terminal 2.

Shuttles and Shared-Ride Services 

Several companies offer shared-ride services to and from Raleigh-Durham Airport. 

Location: Terminal 1 and 2, before security, arrivals, outside baggage claim in the brown limo zones

Bus

Triangle Transit Route 100 is a local bus route that runs between the airport and the Triangle Transit Regional Transit Center offering connections to other buses that serve Raleigh, Durham, and Cary. The bus runs every 30-60 minutes and the journey takes approximately 35 minutes.

RDU Observation Park

Raleigh Airport offers a small observation park for aviation fans. The park offers a little raised platform that gives you a great view over the tarmac. There are also loudspeakers where you can listen to the tower radio for incoming and outgoing planes.
