Getting around the airport

Three terminals

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is 5km miles south-east of downtown Phoenix. The airport has three terminals: Terminals 2, 3 and 4.

Terminal 2

  • Gates C-D and 1-15.
  • Opposite ticket counters on the lower level is baggage claim (near door 7) with an outside walkway to T3 and Sky Train.
  • Gates 1-15 are on Level 2, as well as security checkpoints and gates.
  • Airlines served by this terminal include Alaska Airlines, Spirit Airlines and United Airlines.

Terminal 3 (aka John S. McCain III Terminal)

  • Level 1 houses ticket counters and baggage claim.
  • Level 2 has security checkpoints (north and south), food and drink, and retail concessions). This level also connects to Terminal 2 in the food court and to Terminal 4 by Sky Train
  • Security South leads to South Concourse Gates 1-14 while Security North leads to Gates 15-26 in the North Concourse.
  • Airlines served by this terminal include Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines and JetBlue Airlines.

Terminal 4 (aka Barry M. Goldwater Terminal)

  • Biggest terminal in the airport and contains North gates (A1-A30 and B1-B28) and South gates D and C.
  • Most international flights arrive at the North Gates (Gates B15-B28). Unless you have gone through US customs clearance at your originating airport, you will need to allow at least 35-45 minutes for customs and check-in procedures, and another 30 minutes to board the Sky Train, go through security and to your connecting gate.
  • Level 1 is arrivals, with baggage claim and ground transportation.
  • Level 2 is ticketing with check-in facilities.
  • Level 3 is the departures level – head north for Security Checkpoint A to A gates and Security Checkpoint B to domestic B gates. South is Security Checkpoint C and D. Level 3 also houses the entrance to the PHX Sky Train.
  • Airlines served by this terminal include American Airlines, Codnor and British Airways. The South Gates (C1-C19 and D1-D8) only serve Southwest Airlines.

Getting into Phoenix

Bus, Metro Light Rail or taxi

Bus

Valley Metro City bus route 13 travels between 75th Ave/Buckeye Rd and the airport. Bus routes 1 and 44 stop at the 44th Street/Washington Valley Metro Rail station, which is connected to the airport via PHX Sky Train.

Metro Light Rail

Valley Metro Light Rail passes can be purchased at the 44th Street PHX Sky Train Station. The trains arrive every 12-20 minutes depending on day and time.

Taxi

Taxis are available 24 hours a day all terminals. Only VIP Taxi, AAA/Yellow Cab, and Mayflower Cab are authorised to pick up passengers at the airport. Rates are charged according to the meter but a journey downtown costs approximately USD 25, depending on traffic. Journey time is 15 minutes.

USB ports and work stations

PHX Airport has USB ports that can be accessed by following the ‘Get Plugged In’ signs. Work stations with 36 sets of chairs and tables (with outlets and USB ports) are available at all three terminal lobbies.

Admiral’s Club

There are three Admiral’s Club lounges in Terminal 4.

Terminal 4, after security, Level 3, Gates A19-21
Terminal 4, after security, Level 3, Gates B5-7
Hours: 05:00-23:30

The Club at PHX

The Club at PHX is a pay-in lounge for travellers. There are telephones, Wi-Fi access, and complimentary snacks and alcoholic beverages. A day pass is USD 35.

Children’s Play Areas

In all terminals

Four play areas are fitted with padded climbing gear, designed for young children. There is also a pre-security gallery with kid-friendly art in Terminal 4 on level 3. It’s free and open 24 hours a day.

  • Terminal 2, airside, level 1, end of the concourse near gates 12 and 13
  • Terminal 3, airside, level 3, end of the south concourse between gates 7 and 9
  • Terminal 3, airside, level 3, end of north concourse near gates 15-26
  • Terminal 4, airside, level 4, close to gate B19

Travelling between terminals

By foot or Sky Train every 3 min

Terminals 2 and 3: There's a walkway between doors 7 & 8.
Terminals 3 and 4: The PHX Sky Train (people mover) connects Terminals 3 and 4, the East Economy Lot, and the 44th St Metro Light Rail station. Trains arrive approximately every three minutes at peak times and run 24-hours. Travel time between each stop is about five minutes.

Terminal 4. Located at the end of the International Concourse B, near Gate B21.

The Temporary Lounge at PHX offers food and refreshment, upgraded Wi-Fi, and newspapers - all in a relaxed environment, allowing guests to separate themselves from the noise and crowds of the public terminal. NOTE: LoungeBuddy bookings are available daily from opening until 3:30 pm. LoungeBuddy entries are NOT permitted after 3:30 pm daily. NOTE: The Temporary Lounge will operate through the end of May 2019. From the end of May 2019 through October 2019, the Temporary Lounge will be located in Terminal 4, near the beginning of Gates B15-B28. NOTE: Children under 2 are admitted free of charge with an adult; please notify the lounge in advance. NOTE: Smart casual dress code is enforced.
