Getting around the airport


Bari airport lies approx. 8 km north-west of the city center of Bari and some 11 km south-west from Palese. Its official name is Karol Wojtyla Airport, but it is also called Palese Airport. 

The airport has one main passenger building with two levels.
Ground floor: arrivals hall with baggage claim, lost and found, exchange, car rental desks
First floor: check-in desks, securtiy check-in, shops and restaurants, departure hall

Local specialties

This is the place to get all these Italian delicious specialties to take home. Pasta, olive oil, black truffle paste, fresh buffalo mozzarella and more. They also offer very tasty sandwiches to go. Try the ham with mozzarella and dried tomatoes (EUR 6.99). Have it heated up. Pricy but worth it.

Getting into Bari

Train, bus and taxi options

Bari airport is well connected to downtown Bari as well as other cities by either train or different bus services. A big screen above the exit of the terminal in the arrivals hall offers up to date information on departure times and late arrivals.

Direct service from the airport to Piazza Aldo Moro, near Bari's main station. The trip takes about 15 minutes and costs about EUR 5. Tickets can be bought at a machine immediately outside the platform or on the way to the platform.
The platform is a short walk away. Leave the terminal buidling, take the escalator down, walk the long tunnel. Immediately ahead of you is the platform for Bari.

Tempesta Shuttle Bus and PugliaAirBus
Speedy, 20-30 minute airport shuttle service from the airport to Piazza Aldo Moro/Bari Central railway station. About EUR 4.50. Pay directly at the driver.
Exit the terminal building to the front to find both bus services.

Taxis take about 25 minutes to central Bari and cost about EUR 20. Be sure that the meter is working or negotiate the price before boarding. Expect additional charges for late night trips, weekends or public holidays as well as luggage, airport fees or for more than four passengers. Taxis from reputable companies are usually yellow or white, have a taxi sign on their roofs as well as an identification number on the driver's door.
