Miami International Airport - MIA

Miami, United States of America (US)

Getting around the airport

3 terminals and 6 concourses

Miami International Airport lies 13km north-west of downtown Miami and is the largest gateway between the US and Latin America.

It has three terminals, connected in one building and laid out in a U-shape:

  • North Terminal (Blue): Concourse and Gates D. American Airlines and American Eagle flights only.
  • Central Terminal (Yellow): Concourses and Gates E, F and G. You'll find the main shopping area in the airport in Concourse E.
  • South Terminal (Red): Concourses and Gates H and J.

You will use three main levels of the building:

  • Level 1: Arrivals, baggage carousels and access to taxis and local buses
  • Level 2: Departures, check-in, shopping and dining, and access to the concourses
  • Level 3: Customs and immigration for international arrivals (Concourses D and J only), and the MIA Mover shuttle train station

Skytrain in Concourse D: At nearly 2km long, Concourse D is pretty large. A Skytrain people mover runs its length, with four stops at gates D17, D24, D29 and D46. Trains run every three minutes and the end-to-end journey takes four minutes.

MIA Mover to Miami Intermodal Center: This automated people mover takes you to the external ground transportation centre, 2km away, containing the Metrorail station, Tri-Rail station, bus terminal and the Rental Car Center. The station from the terminals is on Level 3 and reachable using the Skyride Connector walkways. Trains run every two minutes between 05:00-00:00 (with an on-call button from 00:00-05:00).

This modern building houses the Metrorail Station, bus terminal and Rental Car Center. Taxis leave from the main terminal building.

We recommend taking the Metro for a cheap, convenient journey into the city, and the airport bus for trips to South Beach.

Beat the queues

Secret entrance

There’s usually congestion at Concourse D’s checkpoints in the early morning (05:30-08:00) and mid-afternoon (14:00-16:00). You can beat the queues, though, by entering at the Councourse E checkpoint and using a post-security connector to Concourse D.
