Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport - CTU

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport lies around 16km south-west of the Chengdu, the capital of China's Sichuan province. An important transport hub, in 2015, it was ranked the fourth busiest airport in China.

It has two passenger terminals:

Terminal 1 is divided into Domestic and International Wings, and has three concourses (A, B, and C). Arrivals is on Level 1 and Departures is on Level 2.

Terminal 2 is twice the size of Terminal 1. It has five levels and concourses D, E, and F (further divided into Pier F, north, and Pier G, south): 

• Level B2 offers access to access to the train station and parking, with lifts and escalators to Arrivals on Level 1
• Level 2 is the transfer level that allows passengers without checked-in baggage to get to their next flight 
• Level 3 is the check-in and departures level with a few shops at each end
• Level 4 houses the Food Plaza in the centre, and, airside, services and shops to the right and lounges to the left 

There are a variety of options for getting to the city of Chengdu, but we recommend a taxi as the most direct route.

Taxi

Taxis are a very affordable way to get into Chengdu. Avoid the drivers at the front doors and go to the queue of official taxis. There is no extra charge for luggage or additional passengers. You may be taken on a toll road, for which you'll  have to pay a small extra fee (with receipt).

Cost: CNY 45-60 to the city centre (an acceptable bargaining price is RMB 50)
Location: Terminal 1, Arrivals, Gate 2; Terminal 2, outside Arrivals Gates 4 and 5 

Train

You can also take the CRH high-speed train to Chengdu South (10 minutes) and Chengdu East Railway Stations (16 minutes). From here, you can also take trains to nearby cities such as Leshan, Emeishan, Meishan East, Qingshen, Deyang and Mianyang.

(A Metro connection is planned to Taipingyuan Station, for connections to Metro lines 3, 7 and 10.)

Bus

Airport buses run on four lines to the city centre stops: Chengdu North Railway Station, Chengdu East Railway Station, and Century City. 

Cost: From CNY 10-12 depending on destination

• Chengdu First Class Lounge, domestic terminal 1, airside, corridors A,B and C, nexto to gates 112, 125. Hours: 6:00-23:00.
• Chengdu VIP Lounge, international terminal 1, airside, corridors A and C, near gate 112. Hours: available 24h.
• Air China International Lounge, international terminal 1, airside, near gate 106. Hours: available 24h.
• Chengdu First Class Lounge, terminal 2, airside, corridors E and F, near gate 155. Hours: 6:00-23:00.
• Air China Domestic First & Business Class Lounge, terminal 2, airside, near gate 154. Hours: available 24h.
• China Eastern VIP Lounge, terminal 2, airside, pier D, near gate 139. Hours: 6:00-23:00.
• Chengdu Airport First Class Lounge, terminal 2, airside, pier D, near gate 172. Hours: 6:00-23:00.

The free airport Wi-Fi requires a Chinese phone number to access, but travellers report the connection is spotty. Coffee (that is the name – it has a red panel with a white logo with the word ‘Coffee’ and a Wi-Fi symbol) in the departure check-in area of Terminal 1 that offers Wi-Fi and a couple of computers.

The Chengdu Airport Hotel is located across from Terminal 1 and facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a spa and fitness centre, and business centre with meeting rooms. You will also have access to complimentary wireless internet and two restaurants – one serving local Szechuan food.

The hotel is a 5 minute walk but you have to cross a main road, so unless you’re in a rush or don’t have much luggage, it’s best to take the free airport shuttle. Rooms start at RMB 638 (USD 103) per night.

The are no international car rental companies present at Chengdu Airport but there are counters of local providers. International rental companies, such as Avis, do have an office in the city.

There is a luggage storage office at Chengdu airport for travellers on layovers or day trips. Rates vary by luggage size and length of time they are keeping them. Small luggage starts at RMB 8 for 6 hours, while medium-sized luggage is RMB 12, and large bags cost RMB 20.
The storage offices are in Terminal 1 Departures between Gates 6 and 7 (Hours: 05:00 – 23:00) and Terminal 2 behind check-in counters N, P (Hours: 05:00 – 23:00).

Unfortunately there are not showers at Chengdu airport.

Shuttle between terminals

A shuttle bus takes you regularly between terminals, from 90 minutes before the first flight of the day, until after the last departure of the day. Fares are CNY 10, or free for children under 1.2m as well as pregnant, disabled and passengers over the age of 70.
