Edinburgh Airport - EDI

Edinburgh, United Kingdom (GB)

Getting into Edinburgh

Take a local tram

There are several ways to get into Edinburgh, but the tram is a frequent, reliable and inexpensive option.

Tram

The tram takes you into the city in around 35 minutes and runs every 8-12 minutes. You can connect with rail services at Edinburgh Park and Haymarket stations. All trams have free Wi-Fi.

Cost: GBP 6 one-way, GBP 8.50 return
Buying tickets: Ticket machines at the tram stop

Bus

The Airlink 100 airport express bus service takes you to Waverley Bridge (near Princes Street and the main rail and bus stations) in around 30 minutes, and runs every 10 minutes. If you're travelling at night, you'll need to take the Night bus N22 which runs every 30 minutes from 00:45-04:15.

Cost:
GBP 4.50 one-way, GBP 7.50 return (Airlink 100)
GBP 3 flat fare (Night bus N22 which offers unlimited travel for one night)
Buying tickets: Online, at the airport information desk, at the bus stop or from the driver

Taxi

A trip to the city centre takes about 25 minutes and all taxis are wheelchair accessible. When travelling back to the airport, your taxi can drop you off in one of two locations:

  • Paid dropoff zone, offering quick and convenient access to the terminal for GBP 1
  • Free drop-off zone in the long-stay car park, where you can take a free bus to the terminal in five minutes

Cost: GBP 25-30 (plus drop-off fee)
Location: Directly opposite the terminals, ground floor of the multi-storey car park

Getting around the airport

One terminal, two levels

Edinburgh Airport lies around 10km west of the city centre and is a small but pleasant airport. There have, however, been reports of difficulties and queues going through security, so allow plenty of time. It has one terminal building on two levels:

  • Ground floor: Check-in, Arrivals, some shops
  • First floor: Security, after security waiting area with shops and gates (1-7 and 9-12 in the main building, 13-23 in an east pier)

Eat and shop after security

There are only a few coffee and snacks options before security, but plenty more eating options after security, so it's best to check in before grabbing a bite. The same goes for shopping, there's a lot more choice after security. However, the landside M&S Simply Food shop is a good place if you want to buy something cheap yet good quality to eat once you're through security.
