Kuala Lumpur International Airport - KUL

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (MY)

Getting around the airport

Two terminals

Kuala Lumpur International Airport lies around 50km south of the city centre. It has two terminals, 2km apart:

  • Main Terminal Building (MTB): Also known as KLIA1. Gates A and B handle domestic flights. Gates G and H handle international flights. It connects, via the Aerotrain (running every three-five minutes, journey time under two minutes), to Satellite Terminal A. This satellite building serves international flights and hosts Gates C and plenty of restaurants and high-end shops.

  • KLIA2: The terminal for low-cost carriers. A complex called Gateway KLIA2 is connected to this terminal and offers a 'mall' concept within the airport, with shops and restaurants over four levels. It also has a transport hub, with a train station for the Express Rail Link/KLIA Express, taxi ranks, bus stops and car pick-up points. It's a huge building: domestic departures go from Gates J and K, and international departures from Gates L, P and Q, and it's a 15-30 minute walk between P and Q.

Getting into Kuala Lumpur

Take the KLIA Ekspres

Train

The fastest way to Kuala Lumpur is the KLIA Ekspres non-stop service, taking just 28 minutes to KL Sentral Station from KLIA1, and 33 minutes from KLIA2. Trains run from 04:55-00:55 and leave every 15 minutes during peak hours (Mon-Fri, 06:00-09:00 and 16:00-22:00), and every 20 minutes at other times.

Location: Basement platforms in both terminals (well-signposted)

Taxi

If you're travelling in a group of two or three people, it's best to take a taxi. The Taxi Coupon Counter in Arrivals guarantees a fixed fee; ask for a budget taxi there and give your destination. After paying, you’ll be given a coupon stating your destination and how much you’ve paid; no need to pay the driver or tip. For three people, this works out cheaper than the train, and you get door-to-door service.

Cost: Around RYM 80-90 into KL city centre
