Getting around the airport

Four terminals connected by bus

Cancún International Airport is the second biggest airport in Mexico overall and the biggest in the country for incoming international flights. It is located 15km south of the city and has four terminals.

  • Terminal 1: Mostly used by low-cost and charter carriers.
  • Terminal 2: Consists of concourses A and B. Mostly serves domestic flights and some international ones.
  • Terminal 3: Most international flights from US and European airlines.
  • Terminal 4: Serves national and international airlines.

Travelling between terminals

The four terminal buildings are not connected. There is a free shuttle service between terminals. It's comfortable and convenient and runs every 10 minutes.

Lounges

In terminal 2 and 3

There are two Mera VIP lounges located in Terminals 2 and 3. They are not airline-operated and charge USD 35 per passenger for up to 3 hours. Both lounges offer A/C, WiFi, an open bar, drinks and snack

    Terminal 2, after security, behind the escalators 
    Terminal 3, after security, follow the sign that indicates the entrance after exiting the duty-free shop

Getting into Cancun

Take the bus

Bus

There are public buses that leave from the airport at scheduled times. Buses go from the Cancun International Airport to the bus stations in Downtown Cancun and Downtown Playa del Carmen. This is a direct non-stop service to the bus stations only.

Buses to the Cancun Downtown Bus Station leave every hour from 8:15-6:55. Buses to the Playa Del Carmen Bus Station leave at irregularly about once an hour between 8:30-18:45.

Location: The buses leave from the arrivals hall of Terminal 3 and Terminal 2.

Cost: The ride to downtown Cancun takes 35 minutes and costs USD 4.58 and to Playa del Carmen it's 65 minutes and costs USD 11.17.

Taxi

Don't fall for scammers trying to offer you rides inside ther terminal. The official (white and green) taxis will be in front of the terminal and there is a service desk to arrange a ride. Taxis who drop off passengers are not allowed to pick up new passengers. A taxi ride to downtown Cancun will cost about USD 50 and take 30 minutes.
