Brussels Airport - BRU

Brussels, Belgium (BE)

Getting around the airport

1 Main Terminal, 2 Piers

Brussels Airport lies 11km north-east of Brussels. It only has one terminal, but be aware that it's a big terminal, and can be tricky to navigate. There are two departures halls: Departures hall 1 hosts check-in desks 1-10, while Departures hall 2 hosts 11, 12 and 14. Once checked in, the terminal splits into two separate areas, Pier A (newer, mostly Schengen flights) and Pier B (older, mostly non-Schengen flights). These are clearly sign-posted and pretty easy to find. Once through security, there are plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you occupied. These are spread out across two levels so if you have time, walk around and view the whole area – the shops may look a bit old but there is a great selection of brands.

And double-check your gate: The zones in Pier A aren't in numerical order and it can be a long walk in each direction, so we recommend double-checking the gate on your boarding pass and paying attention to the signs. Zones A and T are not next to each other, but if your boarding card says Zone A/T that means Zone T at the end of Pier A.

Take the bus from A to B after security

There is a shuttle bus connecting Zone T in Pier A to Pier B that will transfer you from a non-Schengen flight to a non-Schengen connection. Follow the red 'Connections' signs to Zone T. The shuttle bus is departing from Gate B93 every 10 minutes and the journey takes approximately 5.

Gates don’t follow a consistent pattern

The zones in Pier A aren’t in order and it’s a long walk in each direction, so we recommend double checking the gate on your boarding pass and paying attention to the signs. Cash-only snacks

Dispensing machines only take coins

If you’ve made it to your gate and are in need of a drink or a snack from a vending machine, be aware that they only take Euro coins – no bills or cards. While most things in Brussels can be paid for with a chip and PIN card, we recommend holding on your coins to buy small things.

When you're short on change, there's a stand at the entrance to the gate where you can buy cards and stock up on necessities.

Shop before you go to Brussels

Save 8-10% compared to the city centre

A little tip is to buy your souvenirs cheaper at the airport than in Brussels city center. You'll make a saving of 8-10% when you see the 'Travel Value' sign in shops in Pier A and Pier B. And you'll make a bigger saving on beauty, chocolate, and fashion products – typically around 17% less than the brand's RRP.

Plastic bags for liquids

Best to bring them with you

You've put all your liquids neatly in a clear plastic bag haven't you? Don't worry. If you've forgotten, you can buy bags from vending machines for EUR 1 so you don’t have to throw away all your toiletries.

Limited mobility

Ask for assistance

Regardless of where you're boarding it's often necessary to go up and down levels many times. And, with many stairs and escalators but not so many lifts, the airport is not so friendly for people requiring special assistance.

We recommend speaking to the information desk at check-in so they can set you up with an assistance car.

Power outlets

Not easy to find

  • New seats with power outlets in the waiting areas of Pier A.

  • Airport’s bikes: charging stations in the airport are powered by bicycles that allow you to pedal your way to charged phone.

  • At each gate: one plug is aleays located at the wall very near the short metal column that supports the glass exit barriers
