Getting into Inverness

Bus is best

With no direct rail service to the airport, bus and taxi are your only options.

You can take the route 11 Jet Bus, run by Stagecoach, to the centre of Inverness in 20 minutes. It also goes to Culloden, Nairn, Forres and Elgin. Buses run around every 30 minutes (more buses run to Inverness than Nairn).

Cost: GBP 4 one-way to the city centre
Location: Outside the terminal

You can catch a cab - or pre-book one - from the licensed airport taxi operators, Inverness Taxis (+44 (0) 1463 222 222) or Tartan Taxis (+44 (0) 1463 222 777.

Cost: GBP 15-20 to the city centre
Outside the terminal

The nearest rail stations to the airport are Inverness and Nairn, both about 15km away. To get there, you can take a taxi or the Jet Bus, route 11 (in Inverness, get off at Academy Street by the Eastgate Shopping Centre). From Inverness rail station, you can get to many destinations in the Highlands, and cities like Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Getting around the airport

Inverness Airport (known locally as Dalcross) is a small transport hub that lies 13km from the city of Inverness. It's basic but easy to transit through.

The airport is the main gateway for travellers to the north of Scotland and the Highlands, and serves airlines including British Airways, Flybe, easyJet and Helvetic Airlines, with flights to places including London, the Hebrides and Italy.

There is one terminal with only two boarding gates, and Arrivals and Departures are on one level. Its few facilities include:

  • Landside: WHSmith newsagent, The Meeting Place café, D'Lish restaurant and bar
  • Airside: WHSmith newsagent, Fly Nip off licence, Jail Dornoch Scottish clothing, café, Highland Lounge

Note that cafés may close early, and can be expensive, so if you have a later flight, you may want to bring food with you.

Airport opening hours: 05.00 - 23:30
