London, United Kingdom (GB)
To avoid London's notorious traffic, we recommend you take the train. However, if you have plenty of time, you'll save a lot of money by taking the bus, and will avoid having to take a shuttle bus to the train station.
The quickest way into central London is by train from Luton Airport Parkway station, 1.5km away. An East Midlands/Thameslink train will take you to St Pancras in 25/35 minutes and Blackfriars in 45 minutes. First, you'll need to take First Capital Connect's 'Train2Plane' shuttle bus to the train station, which runs every 10 minutes and the journey takes 10 minutes.
Cost: Around GBP 15 to London St Pancras International
Buying tickets: Machines at the station or online. Please keep in mind that it's cash only for the shuttle bus.
Take the National Express, which runs 24/7, to get to central London. The A1 bus runs to London Victoria Coach Station, the A2 bus runs to London Paddington Station via Baker Street. Alternatively, you can take the Green Line 757 bus (to Brent Cross and Baker Street), but it's likely they will cost you more (GBP 10-12).
Cost: From GBP 7 online, but prices vary considerably depending on how early you book
Location: Outside the main terminal building
Luton is quite a distance from London, so a taxi will be very expensive, and is subject to traffic in rush hours. Journey time will be at least one hour.
Cost: Over GBP 100 (plus discretionary 10% tip)
Location: Taxi rank outside the terminal
London Luton Airport lies 57km north of central London, and is the city's fourth largest airport serving mainly flights to Europe. It serves airlines such as easyJet, Thomas Cook and Ryanair.

If you’ve got time to spare, take a day trip to the largest zoo in the UK. Whipsnade Zoo is only seven miles from Luton Airport and easily accessible by car or taxi. Set in 600 acres of panoramic scenery and the rolling Chiltern Hills, and with over 2,741 unique animals and 193 different species, Whipsnade is a group adventure not to be missed.
If you've got a few hours before your flight, try your hand at paintballing. Delta Force Paintball is located just 5km from Luton Airport. It offers action-packed game zones including Sheriffs Castle, Dawn of the Dead, Wild Wild West and much more.
There's a 24 hour storage facility next to Outsize Baggage in the check-in area. It costs £6.00 / €7.50 per bag, per day.
Voyager Entertainment is located in both Arrivals and Departures. The centres are open 24 hours and offer a variety of games and amusements to keep you and the kids occupied before your flight.
