Getting around the airport

Single terminal

Newcastle International Airport lies 10km north-west of the city centre. It has one terminal, with Check-in and Arrivals on the ground floor and Departures on the second floor. As you enter the building, Check-in is in the middle (towards the right), domestic arrivals are on the right and international arrivals are on the left. Landside, you'll find a café, pub, bakery, newsagent and convenience store. Airside, you'll find a greater choice of restaurants and cafés, as well as a wine bar and real ale pub. There are also plenty of shops airside, selling fashion, sportswear, accessories, electronic items, duty-free goods and more.

Getting into Newcastle

Train is best

Most find Metro to be the easiest way into Newcastle.


Train

The Tyne and Wear Metro, green line, takes you to central Newcastle (Haymarket, Monument or Central Station) in around 25 minutes (or Sunderland in 50 minutes). Trains run every 12 minutes from 05:44 (Sundays 06:27) to 11:58.

From Newcastle's Central Station, you can connect to many cities in the UK, including London (4 hrs), Birmingham (4 hrs), Glasgow (3 hrs), Manchester (3 hrs) and York (1 hr).

Cost: GBP 3.40 one-way, GBP 4.60 'day saver' ticket (less with a Pop Pay as You Go (PAYG) top-up card) 
Buying tickets: Machines at the station - you'll need an 'all zone' ticket, covering zones A, B and C (where the airport is located)
Location: Airport station, to the left of the terminal as you exit the building, via an indoor walkway


Taxi

Airport Taxis, the official taxi service for Newcastle International Airport, is the only taxi organisation that can pick up or drops off immediately outside the terminal building. The journey into the city takes 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic. You can pre-book (+44 (0) 191 214 6969 or www.airport-taxis.co.uk) or catch a cab from the airport.

Bus

You can reach Newcastle via one of several local bus routes, including the X77, X78 and X79. Journey time to Eldon Square Bus Concourse is around 30 minutes. More information: www.travelinenortheast.info

There are four baby change rooms at the airport: two before security and two after. All change rooms are clearly signposted and located next to the bathrooms.
